Watercolour in Motion

Become a true watercolourist as you progress from simple strokes to creative compositions while studying a range of subjects, tools and techniques.

The vibrant freshness in watercolour allows you to create expressive and beautiful paintings and combine aspects of nature, animals and the human form. We’ll look at shadows (value), shapes (proportion) and composition (structure). Techniques and methods will also be shown.

All levels are welcome.

If you would like to book into term 1 & 2 together at a discounted rate, please contact us via email or phone.

Alternatively, if you would like to book an additional course in the same Term, please contact the Art Centre for a discount code to apply to your second course booking. Note that this discount code cannot be used in addition to the combined Term 1 & 2 discounted rate.

Materials required

  • Watercolour Paper: I would prefer 300gsm: Arches SMOOTH (HOT PRESSED SATINE) A4 size: 297cm x420mm. Or larger A3 size if you wish.

  • Pencils HB - plus Pencil sharpener

  • Eraser - (Faber Castel DUST FREE)

  • Watercolour paints - including a yellow, blue and red. I use Winsor and Newton Quinacridone Gold, French Ultramarine Blue and Permanent Alizarin Crimson.

  • Masking tape

  • Water container for water

  • Paint brushes – Fine point, medium and 1 inch Hake - larger bushes will give a looser effect

  • Painting pallet: I use a ceramic plate with paints placed around the edge to help mix colours in the centre.

  • Roll of toilet tissue

  • Backing Board

  • Cartridge paper (approx 130gsm)

  • Ruler – marked in cm

  • Small takeaway container – useful to use to raise the backing board and create a slope.

  • All other watercolour paints and materials can be discussed with the tutor in the first class.
