Soil, pest and predators

In this workshop you will learn how to support the health and abundance of your edible garden with a natural approach to building great soil, fertilising and pest and disease control. Learn about testing your soil type and pH, improving your soil, Integrated Pest Management, good bugs and bad bugs, companion planting and how to make natural fertilisers and pest control from your garden and pantry. This workshop is designed for beginners and for those who want to improve their processes. It will include:

  • How to test your soil texture and pH.
  • Soil improvement strategies.
  • Identification of pests and diseases.
  • Beneficial insects and other creatures in your garden ecosystem.
  • Integrated Pest Management – what is it?
  • Companion planting – is it useful?
  • Natural fertilisers – what to use and how often?
  • Natural pest control recipes.

This workshop is funded by Ku-ring-gai Council's Environmental Levy.

The Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden is one of Sydney's best kept secrets, set across 123 hectares of unique urban bushland and home to two endangered ecological communities as well as 18 threatened species of flora and fauna. The Wildflower Garden is open to the public all year round and has a range of hikes, step-free walking tracks, picnic areas and heritage venue hire as well as a diverse calendar of environmental education programs.
