Sculpture Studio

Self directed studio work by experienced sculpture students.

Level: 2/3, Competent - Advanced.

Materials

New Students please check the class is running before purchasing materials).

Modelling in clay

Payment for clay with credit card only.

Small board, covered in calico or other fabric (or better still a turntable) cutting wire (fishing line or guitar string with pegs at each end) sponges, old towel, plastic bags and/or glad wrap, spray bottle for water, plastic bucket, old toothbrush and paint brushes, paint brushes for applying glaze, apron or old shirt, sketchbooks, notebooks (useful in life modelling classes), pencils and charcoal. The following pottery tools are useful but not essential:

A collection of kidneys – rubber, stainless steel or timber, Wooden modelling tools, Ribbon turning tools, Sharp pointed knife, patter, or wok spoon.

Carving

Soapstone:

Set of carving tools, chisels, Incannelled gouges, Stanley surform rasps, sandpaper 40 grit then 80, 240, 320, 400, 600 and 1200, rifflers (an excellent set of 8 inexpensive rifflers can be purchased from

Eckersley Art in Chatswood), a facemask, and a towel. 

Sandstone:

Mallet (discuss size and weight prior to purchase), Scutch, points, chisels, grinding wheels (old, used angle grinding wheels will do) Face dust mask, goggles.

PLEASE NOTE THAT COVERED FOOTWEAR IS REQUIRED.
