Are you interested in becoming a local councillor?
Councillors can play a key role in making decisions that influence both the short-term concerns and long-term strategic direction of their local community. It is a big commitment, and prospective councillors need to know what will be expected of them – the challenges, responsibilities and opportunities.
This information session will provide those interested in becoming a councillor a better understanding of the role and responsibilities as an elected member of council.
The candidate briefing session will be conducted by former Mayor of Leichhardt and Local Government NSW facilitator, Maire Sheehan.

The Office of Local Government has a new dedicated webpage on its website for candidates at the upcoming local government elections called ‘Become a Councillor’. It includes an online learning tool and targeted candidate guides for women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disability and young people.
