Midweek Movies - Shayda

It's time for another Australian film with Shayda, a piercing exploration of motherhood, cultural clashes and the invisible struggles of many in our society. 

A brave Iranian mother, Shayda, finds refuge in an Australian women’s shelter with her six-year-old daughter. Over Persian New Year, they take solace in Nowruz rituals and new beginnings, but when her estranged husband re-enters their lives, Shayda’s path to freedom is jeopardised. 

Drawn from personal experiences, Iranian-Australian filmmaker Noora Niasari’s powerful debut feature is a beautifully crafted, poetic story of courage and compassion, anchored by a heart-rending performance by Zar Amir Ebrahimi.
