Jewellery Design and Making

Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of metal smithing, including jewellery design, terminology used and basic techniques such as sawing, annealing, soldering, filing and polishing. Students will then progress onto individual projects while learning more complex techniques.

Christine works with each individual in the class to achieve their own unique jewellery pieces.

Materials required (If you are unsure, please speak to your tutor in week one)

Metal supplier - see list below

  • Copper sheet 1mm thick (approximately 100x100mm)  

  • Sterling silver round wire 1mm wide (approximately 200mm long)  

  • Silver solder wire .5 thickness EASY and HARD  

  • Adjustable saw frame

  • Saw blades - I bundle size 2/0

  • Drill bits - one of each size 1mm; 1.5mm

  • Emery paper 1 sheet of each grade 240, 600, 1200 & 3 x wooden sticks

  • Titanium soldering pick  

  • Stainless steel basic tweezers 

Officeworks or newsagency

  • Note book, pen and pencil
  • Black marker - extra fine

  • Scissors - small
  • Small metal ruler

  • Extra fine basic brush
