Creative pottery and sculptural forms

Investigate ideas and techniques to make ceramic objects unique to you while being guided by an expert potter.
The tactile sensuality of this forgiving medium will help find and extend your hidden talents. This flexible course covers sculptural forms, the wheel and hand-building.

Materials required (please speak to your tutor in the first class if you are unsure):
Sketchbook and/or notebook in which to record processes; gather information and do drawings
Pen and/or Pencils and sharpener
Towel
Tools will be discussed in the first lesson but if you already have any of the following, please
bring them along.

Canvas or calico material

Cutting wire

Knife - fettling or kitchen knife

Kitchen fork

Set of ceramic tools for modelling and/or throwing (Can be obtained from $2 shop)

Metal, rubber, wooden kidneys, or ‘credit’ cards

Paint brushes for applying glaze and oxides (colourants)

Surform (from hardware store or pottery supplier)

Texture tools for marking clay i.e., shells, bark, stamps etc

Sponge
These tools can be acquired and added to over time.
Each student will be encouraged to develop their own method of working with the clay medium to realise their own expression.
