City nature challenge - a citizen science event
Next date: Sunday, 27 April 2025 | 09:30 AM
to 12:00 PM
The City Nature Challenge is an international event that runs every year to highlight the diversity of wildlife in our cities.
At this event we will get to grips with the basics of using iNaturalist, a biodiversity recording app, to record the plants, animals and fungi we find. Once everyone is up to speed we will hunt down as many critters and plants and we can see who can record the most species.
First 15-30 minutes will be an introduction to the event and covering the basics of iNaturalist for those unfamiliar. The remainder of the event will be spent recording the wildlife we find.
Bring a phone or digital device with a camera capable of accessing the internet. The event will be outside and on potentially uneven surfaces so please wear walking books and appropriate outdoor clothing.
The event will still run in light rain. Under more extreme weather conditions the event will be cancelled. There are no bathrooms on-site, the nearest ones can be found at Koola Park approx. 600m, an 8 minute walk away. There is a cafe and parking on-site.
Please do not attend if you are feeling unwell.
