Warrimoo's history
The Warrimoo Downhill Mountain Bike trail is a highly valued downhill series of trails with a long history. Initially an informal mountain bike trail, Warrimoo (or "Crackers" as it is known in the mountain biking community) was closed by Ku-ring-gai Council in 2017 to protect the Coastal Upland Swamp identified within the area.
Council commissioned an ecological feasibility study to determine if there was a way to protect the bushland whilst still allowing the community to continue to enjoy recreation in this natural area. Council has worked closely with consultants, track builders, State agencies and the community to find a sustainable option to provide a continuing downhill mountain biking experience.
As a part of the wider Recreation in Natural Areas Strategy, Council consulted with mountain bikers, environmental groups, ecologists and residents to ensure all user groups could enjoy our bushland with minimal impact.
The mountain biking community worked together with Council to construct the Warrimoo Downhill Mountain Bike Trail and our 'Moo Volunteers' continue to work to maintain it. Show your respect by observing the rules and contact Council if you want to be part of the volunteer crew below.
