Memorial benches
A guide to their placement on public land
Ku-ring-gai Council recognises that memorial benches can give families and friends a place to find comfort and reflect on loved ones who have passed away.
Council has prepared the following guidelines on the placement of benches on public land which include indicative costs.
New benches
A new bench can be installed by Council in approved locations holding special significance for the applicant.
Please note memorial benches can only be installed on public land.
Cost: $4,280 (including GST) includes plaque, concrete slab and labour.
Existing benches
Council can refurbish an existing bench in approved locations where there are already a number of benches, or if an existing bench holds special significance.
Cost: $2,140 (including GST) includes plaque and labour.

Terms and conditions
Please allow up to three months for installation of a new bench or refurbishment of an existing bench.
Applications for memorial benches will only be considered from current Ku-ring-gai Council ratepayers or former ratepayers who can demonstrate a minimum of 20 years residency in Ku-ring-gai. Proof of residency must accompany your application.
Specifications for plaques, including the style and number of words will be provided after your application is approved.
Council will determine the most appropriate placement of the bench in consultation with the applicant.
Council may remove or relocate the bench at its discretion after the initial installation in consultation with the applicant.
Note that Council will maintain memorial benches but is not responsible for the replacement of any benches or plaques removed or damaged by vandals.
The scattering or placement of ashes is not permitted on public land.
