Community gardens
Our two community gardens provide areas of shared land where local residents come together to cultivate fresh food, learn about organic gardening and make new friends.
Community gardens have many benefits, including:
- Promoting healthy lifestyles.
- Social benefits from many participants interacting.
- Environmental benefits due to decreased necessity for transporting goods and reducing/reusing waste material.
- Motivating and developing skills residents can apply to their lives.
Both our gardens are welcoming newcomers and those looking to volunteer or manage their own plot of land. Register below.
Turramurra Lookout Community Garden
The Turramurra Lookout Community Garden (TLC Garden) is flourishing with organic vegetables, herbs and flowers. Run by an enthusiastic group of volunteers with assistance from Ku-ring-gai Council and the Turramurra Community Bank branch of the Bendigo Bank, the garden is an inclusive place where people can share their love of gardening and food.
Everyone is welcome to drop by at any time or get involved in one of the garden's working bees on Saturday mornings from 9am to 12pm.
Address: The Lookout, Pacific Highway, Turramurra.
Email the gardens to register for a plot or volunteer your time.
Visit the TLC Garden website or follow them on Facebook.
West Pymble Community Garden
The newly invigorated garden is open and operating and looking forward to welcoming new volunteers to help build this beautiful space.
The garden was originally an initiative of the Tanks a Million project, which aimed to connect people in the West Pymble area around the common goal of saving energy and water. The idea for the garden was born out of community discussions around reducing 'food mileage' through the saving of water and energy by growing food locally. We have also provided a rainwater tank, tool shed and ongoing support to the garden.
Address: Philip Lane, West Pymble.
Please note that there is currently a waiting list for plots.
Email Jen to register interest or volunteer your time.
St Ives Community Garden
A new community garden is being planned in a park that is being developed at Bedes Forest.
Address: Corner of Stanely St and Yarrabung Road, St Ives.
The community garden committee is in the process of fundraising, planning and designing the garden.
