The Village Chef wins top award

Formerly known as Meals on Wheels, the Village Chef at Turramurra has scooped a statewide award for excellence in food preparation.
The organisation has won this year’s Helping Hand award from Meals on Wheels NSW.
The Helping Hand awards go out to local meals on wheels organisations and other service providers which have gone above and beyond to support the work of Meals on Wheels in NSW.
Earlier this year Ku-ring-gai’s Meals on Wheels provider undertook a name change to The Village Chef and widened its menu choices to include multicultural, vegetarian and gluten free options for residents.
The Village Chef has also supported numerous events and community groups with pre-prepared meals, as well as maintaining a weekly output of over 5000 meals home delivered to elderly and vulnerable clients.
Mayor Sam Ngai said the Council had been supporting the organisation for over 60 years in Ku-ring-gai.
“Ku-ring-gai Council is very committed to this service because we see how much it benefits our residents,” he said.
He added that the Council provided training, a low-cost lease for the premises at Turramurra and grant funding to help The Village Chef continue its work.
The Village Chef at Turramurra will now go on to represent NSW in the national Meals on Wheels awards later this year.
