Youth-Week

This year’s Youth Week program will be packed with events and activities for 12 to 24 year olds.

The annual celebration for young people in NSW will take place between 9 and 17 April this year. The Council’s youth services team will be leading activities in Ku-ring-gai ranging from origami through to a soccer skills clinic and a chance to shine as a folk music performer.

Ku-ring-gai Fitness & Aquatic Centre next to Bicentennial Park in Pymble is also joining in the fun by offering 12-24 year olds free entry during Youth Week.

Youth Week gets underway in Ku-ring-gai on Friday 11 April between 4.30pm and 6pm with a free soccer skills clinic hosted by Football NSW at St Ives Youth Hub, next to St Ives Library. Suitable for those aged 12-18, it’s a chance to learn tricks from professional coaches and test your accuracy at shooting goals. The session is open to all skill levels and football boots are not required.

Also on Friday 11 April, the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Folk Club is offering 12-24 year olds the chance to perform live folk music at their monthly concert between 6.30pm and 9.30pm. The concert is at Beatrice Taylor Hall, 25 Edgeworth David Avenue, Hornsby and full details on how to take part are at Perform at Hornsby-Ku-ring-gai Folk Club Ku-ring-gai

Other events on offer include trial game of lawn bowls at St Ives Bowling Club on 12 April; a free clothing swap for 12-24 year olds on 13 April and a workshop at the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden on 15 April to learn how to create fertile soil to grow fruit and vegetables.

For those preparing for the HSC exams this year, a special workshop on the calming benefits of origami is at the Ku-ring-gai Art Centre in Roseville on 15 April between 4pm and 6pm. Led by Sayoko Burton, an origami instructor and qualified art therapist, the free workshop is designed to promote relaxation and mental clarity.

Mayor Christine Kay said the Council’s Youth Week program was being well supported by local organisations.

“We are very thankful to them for getting behind Youth Week this year and contributing some great events for young people to get involved in.
