Ku-ring-gai’s young residents are invited to enter a unique photo competition which seeks to celebrate positive mental health by focusing on the positives in life.

The Need a Lift! photo competition is open until 11 August 2024 to all young people aged 12-24 years who live, work and study in northern Sydney.

Entrants to the competition are invited to take photos of the people, places or things around them that lift their mood, along with a brief description explaining why.

In October, the photos with the most likes on an online page will win one of six Mastercard gift cards with values of up to $350. All winners will receive an invitation to a free advanced photography workshop.

Selected photos will be showcased in the elevators of NSW Health and council facilities, as well as social media, during Mental Health Month in October.

Ku-ring-gai Mayor Sam Ngai encouraged Ku-ring-gai community members to take part in the competition.

“This is great opportunity for young people to showcase their photographic skills and at the same time shine a light on the importance of positive mental health,” Mayor Ngai said.

To submit an entry go to Need a Lift photography competition.

The competition is organised by northern Sydney councils, along with the Northern Sydney Local Health District School-Link Program, the Child and Youth Mental Health Service; headspaces Brookvale and Chatswood, the Macquarie University Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Research Centre and the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Community Drug Action Team.
