Results of Ku-ring-gai mayoral election

Two female Councillors have been elected as Ku-ring-gai’s Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Cr Christine Kay will take the reins as Mayor, with Cr Kim Wheatley elected Deputy Mayor.
The mayoral election took place at the first meeting for the newly elected Council on 8 October.
Cr Christine Kay will serve a two-year term as Mayor until September 2026. She was first elected to Council in 2018 and represents the St Ives ward.
Mayor Kay has a background in banking and finance, business development, project management, events, tourism and small business. She previously served as Deputy Mayor from September 2023 to September 2024 and has represented Council on a number of committees.
Cr Kim Wheatley has been elected to a one-year term as Deputy Mayor until September 2025. Deputy Mayor Wheatley represents the Wahroonga ward and was first elected to Council in 2021.
Mayor Kay said she anticipated working closely with staff, the community and fellow Councillors on issues such as housing, environmental protection and delivering community services.
“It is an honour to have been elected Mayor at such an important time for Ku-ring-gai,” Mayor Kay said.
“I would like to thank outgoing Mayor Sam Ngai for his work in leading the Council’s response to the NSW Government’s planning reforms”.
“The new Council will need to address some significant challenges over the coming months, and I intend to take a collaborative approach to working through these challenges”.
