Council has transformed an unused plot of public land into a new park in Dumaresq Street Gordon which opened this week.

The new park opened to the public on Friday 28 February, after work was completed on transforming the site into a grassed area with existing significant trees retained for shade.

New seating has been added to the 1458 square metre park, making the new green space an attractive area during lunchtime or after hours for office workers and nearby residents to enjoy.

Dogs are permitted in the park, provided they are leashed at all times.

The creation of the new park follows a Council decision in November 2023 to provide more green space for communal use in Gordon.

Although the new green space is only around 200 metres away from the busy Pacific Highway, Mayor Christine Kay said it was a quiet and pleasant area for workers and residents to sit and unwind.

“This new green space is a welcome addition to the Gordon town centre, which has a high proportion of medium density housing.

“It underlines our commitment to providing new recreational areas in suburbs where there is high population growth.”
