A popular food festival, activities at the Wildflower Garden and traditional arts and performances are all part of Ku-ring-gai’s exciting Lunar New Year celebrations.

The Year of the Snake will be celebrated in Ku-ring-gai between 21 January and 7 February.

The festivities begin on 21 January at the Ku-ring-gai Art Centre, where school holiday activities will be held encouraging young people and families to make traditional scrolls and ceramics, along with calligraphy and floating fans.

At Gordon Library there will be bilingual story time events for young children, along with calligraphy workshops and a folk dancing performance for ages 14 and up.

Over at the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden in St Ives, families can get up close to real snakes and learn about how they live in the wild. Several sessions are available with one on 1 February specially for Mandarin speakers.

The popular Lunar New Year food festival is on at St Ives Village Green between 5pm and 9pm on Friday 7 February.

There will be amusement rides, craft activities and face painting to keep the younger children entertained, along with a wide variety of food trucks and stalls.

From 6pm visitors to the food festival will be able to enjoy eye-catching cultural entertainment including traditional lion and dragon dances.

Mayor Christine Kay said Ku-ring-gai’s Lunar New Year events were growing and she hoped the community would enjoy the Year of the Snake festivities.

“The St Ives food festival in particular has become a much-loved event, and I look forward to seeing many community members on the night,” Mayor Kay said.
