Much-loved community festivals, fun runs, theatre performances and arts exhibitions are among the projects to benefit from $93,900 in sponsorship funding by Ku-ring-gai Council.

At its 16 July 2024 meeting, the Council resolved to sponsor 19 events, arts and cultural and general projects during the financial year 2024/25.

Significant funding allocations included:

  • $25,000 for the Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra to undertake 10 major events, including some with multiple performances. This includes a community concert at Turramurra Uniting Church in August featuring finalists from the 2024 Concerto Competition.
  • $25,000 for the Marian Street Theatre for Young People to undertake a series of events, including a season of Australian playwright George Kemp’s Shack, a season of Fairy Tale News by Belinda Campbell and a year-long performance project for 10 young people with learning and accessibility needs called Access Success.
  • $7,000 for the Bobbin Head Cycle Classic, a regional cycling event that attracts over 2,500 riders from across NSW and starts and finishes at Karuah Oval in Turramurra.
  • $6,000 for the Wahroonga Food and Wine Festival, to be held in October. The event delivers a high quality, unique food and wine festival and helps promote key Australian wine regions.
  • $6,000 for the Wahroonga Village Fair to be held in December, at which around 10,000 community members and visitors will be able to enjoy stalls, food and entertainment.

Other significant grants will go to the St Ives Food and Wine Festival ($4,000), Challenge Works Bare Creek Trail Run ($4,000) and Special Olympics Ku-ring-gai Chase Fun Run ($4,000).

Ku-ring-gai Mayor Sam Ngai said the funding would have a range of benefits, including helping local businesses, supporting healthy sporting activity and bringing the community together.

“The sponsorship funding provided by the Council will play a crucial role in ensuring that these important community projects are able to be delivered,” Mayor Ngai said.

Due to the significant increase in the number and value of funding requests in 2024/25, along with the fact the Council has a set sponsorship budget, the council was not able to fully fund all requests.
