Funding available for heritage home conservation
Published on 17 March 2025
Heritage home owners and managers are now able to apply for grants of up to $5,000 to support sympathetic property conservation works, such as restoring roofs, brickwork or fences.
The 2025 funding round of Ku-ring-gai Council’s Heritage Home Grant program opened on 10 March and will close on 12 May.
Owners and recognised managers of listed heritage items or contributory properties within heritage conservation areas can apply for these grants, where they have not received Heritage Home Grant funding in the past five years.
Grants are allocated on a dollar for dollar basis for a minimum of $1,000 and a maximum of $5,000.
The program supports a range of repairs and restoration works, including to roofs, building structures, verandahs, windows, façade brickwork, fences or other significant features.
Works funded in the 2024 funding round included:
- Roof repairs to homes in Lindfield, Pymble and Wahroonga.
- Repainting of the garden study shutters at the State heritage listed Eryldene at Gordon.
- Fence replacements at homes at Gordon and Lindfield.
- External timber repainting at homes at Pymble, Lindfield and Wahroonga.
According to Ku-ring-gai Council’s 2024 Community Research, protecting heritage buildings and conservation areas was rated as at least somewhat important by 71% of residents.
The funding will fund works that protect or improve the heritage significance of listed buildings and public appreciation for their heritage value.
It does not include routine maintenance, relocation, modern additions, monuments, purchases or flood-lighting.
