Free day of care for carers
Published on 04 October 2023
Local carers are invited to have free massages, meditation, manicures, reflexology and facials on Thursday 19 October while their loved ones are looked after.
The free pampering event between 10am and 2pm is being organised by Ku-ring-gai Council, Carer Gateway, Uniting and Gordon-Pymble Uniting Church in recognition of Carers Week.
The event aims to offer support and self-care so carers can take a brief break from their responsibilities.
Caring in the local area is on the increase, with the 2021 Census showing nearly 5000 people needing assistance with day-to-day activities such as dressing, showering and eating.
The event on Thursday 19 October will offer carers the choice of two free 20-minute facials, mini-manicures, massages and reflexology. There is also a group meditation session.
A free lunch and morning tea will be served and free childcare is available if booked in advance.
Mayor Sam Ngai said the event was ‘one small way our community can say thank you to carers for the ongoing responsibilities they take on’.
“They can book in for their choice of a self-care session while their loved ones are cared for by experienced staff”.
Time slots can be booked by calling 9424 0970 or lli@krg.nsw.gov.au.
Gordon Uniting Church is located at 18 Cecil Street Gordon, opposite Ravenswood School.
