Explore Ku-ring-gai’s heritage

The Ku-ring-gai Heritage Festival is on between 18 April and 19 May with walks, talks, tours and other events bringing local history to life.
The Festival showcases Ku-ring-gai’s connection to history from our natural and indigenous culture through to the architecture and fashions of the 20th century.
New events this year include silent films with live music, art workshop at the Woodlands stately home and photo scavenger hunt at Lindfield Village Green.
Other highlights include:
- A guided walk through the Wildflower Garden at St Ives exploring Ku-ring-gai’s connections to its indigenous heritage.
- A special Mother’s Day afternoon tea amid the gardens of one of the most beautiful stately homes, Eryldene at Gordon.
- Bridal fashions from the bustle to the bias 1880 – 1940 and 1930s evening gowns - presented by the Cavalcade of History & Fashion
- Tours of Woodlands, the birthplace of Ethel Turner’s classic Seven Little Australians.
- Curator led tour of Rose Seidler House and Julian Rose House.
- Aboriginal Heritage Office talk on the remarkable life Maria Locke of Yarramundi at Gordon Library.
- Silent movies, Peter Pan and The General with live music.
- Classes at Killara Croquet Club learning one of Australia’s oldest games.
- Writing workshops to trace and retell your family history.
- A guided tour of Swains Gardens at Killara.
Mayor Sam Ngai said the Heritage Festival is ‘a wonderful way for residents to connect with Ku-ring-gai’s rich and varied past.’
