Demand better planning on housing
The NSW Government is preparing to implement one of the most far-reaching policies on new housing in decades.
While the need for more affordable housing in NSW is widely agreed upon, Council has been alarmed by NSW Government's disregard for community consultation and its rushed one-size-fits-all approach to planning. This sentiment is shared by the Ku-ring-gai community, with 75% of respondents to the Council's housing survey opposing the proposed changes.
If implemented, the impact of increased density here in Ku-ring-gai will be particularly devastating. Some impacts include:
❌ An increase in traffic congestion
❌ Loss of trees and wildlife
❌ Loss of heritage and character
❌ Strain on existing infrastructure and facilities
With the support of its community, Council has voted unanimously to take action and to demand better planning from the NSW Government. What Council is calling for is:
✅ Consulting directly with communities
✅ Working with local councils to understand each community
✅ Protecting natural and built heritage
✅ Maintaining the tree canopy, wildlife and environment
✅ Investing in all necessary new and additional infrastructure.
