Declutter your home of chemicals and clothes

Residents wishing to get rid of unwanted household chemicals and children’s clothes can take advantage of two recycling events in November.
On the weekend of 16 and 17 November St Ives Showground will be hosting a Chemical CleanOut between 9am and 3.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The free event is coordinated by the Environmental Protection Authority with the assistance of Council staff.
Residents can dispose of unwanted paint, pesticides, gas bottles, pool chemicals and other household nasties free of charge. No other household waste items will be accepted at the Chemical CleanOut.

On Saturday 23 November between 10am and 1pm the Douglas Pickering Stand at the Showground will host another free recycling event for children’s clothes, books and toys.
Attendees can bring used items in good condition and suitable for the 0-12 age group, which can then be swapped with others.

Mayor Christine Kay said the swap meet was another in a series of events coordinated by the Council as part of its goal to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
“By exchanging used clothes, books and toys and giving them a longer life, you’re helping to reduce the amount of clothing sent to landfill,” she said.
