Ku-ring-gai Council has prepared a draft flood study for another section of the Middle Harbour catchment, which is on public exhibition until 6 November.

The draft Middle Harbour Northern Catchments Flood Study has been developed by specialist consultants on behalf of the Council.

Its purpose to understand flood behaviour in the Middle Harbour catchment which covers 16.3 square kilometres and includes the suburbs of St Ives, Pymble, Gordon, Killara and East Killara.

Once finalised the flood study could help the Council manage the potential risks of future floods to people, property and infrastructure. It will also influence decisions about how to use land in flood-prone areas, create rules for building in these areas and assist planning for emergencies.

The main goal of the study is to understand how floods behaved in the past, how they behave now and how they might behave in the future. The draft study contains maps showing potential flood areas and risks and has identified properties that could experience flooding in different flood scenarios, taking into account the expected impacts of climate change.

Residents in the study area are being invited to comment on the draft study, which is open for public feedback until 13 November.

Two information sessions will also be held on:

•           10am-1pm Tuesday 26 October at Ku-ring-gai Council, 818 Pacific Highway Gordon

•           5pm-8pm Thursday 28 October at Gordon Library, 799 Pacific Highway Gordon

Residents attending these sessions can ask questions after the presentation of the draft study findings.

For those residents unable to attend the information sessions in person, an online information session will be held between 7pm and 8pm on Thursday 19 October.
