Workshops to create backyard native animal habitats, and an open day to a lush garden described as a “hidden treasure”, are among some of the activities taking place as part of Ku-ring-gai Council’s Eco Festival during September.

Some 20 activities spanning 36 different times will be held as part of The Eco Festival, which will run between 1 and 30 September 2024.

The Council is working with partners to deliver the festival, which will allow community members to better understand how to enhance Ku-ring-gai’s unique environment and take part in innovative green living.

Festival highlights include:

  • A family bush survival skills workshop at Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden on Father’s Day (1 September)
  • A workshop to turn everyday trash into adorable bird critters, and a performance of the quirky and fun play ‘Hatched’, on 7 September
  • Workshops to make nesting boxes for possums on 7 September, and “frog hotels” on 21 September
  • An open day on 8 September at the extensive Swain Gardens at Killara, which are described as a hidden treasure and listed as a local heritage item
  • Two free interactive online workshops, on 13 and 18 September, to help residents deliver healthy, low-cost, efficient homes and lifestyles
  • A workshop to create an amazing cardboard bird sculpture with sculpture artist Tom Buckland on 28 September
  • An introduction to organic gardening at the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden on 28 September

Bookings are essential, with most events being free but some having a small fee.
