Ku-ring-gai Council is calling on local young people to share their input on issues affecting youth in the community.

The Youth Advisory Committee has been set up by the Council to provide a voice for local young people, strengthen participation in community projects, promote youth activities and develop skills and connections.

The committee will meet quarterly to discuss a range of issues affecting young people in Ku-ring-gai. Membership of the committee is voluntary and up to 15 young people will be selected.

Applications to join the committee are open until Friday 13 September. In a new addition to the application process, young people are invited to submit a video to capture why they would make great committee members.

To apply, young people must demonstrate:

  • They live or study in the Ku-ring-gai area
  • They can work in a team and participate in group discussions.
  • They have the capacity and motivation to be part of the committee for 12 months.
  • They have a genuine interest in contributing to the community.

Mayor Sam Ngai said the Council decided to set up the Youth Advisory Committee to capture a diverse range of views from young people.

“Our Council has historically been under-represented by young people, and we wanted to create opportunities for our youth to contribute to local policy.”
