Ku-ring-gai Council is offering $100,000 in grants for community projects that preserve bushland, protect flora and fauna, inspire environmental action and help reduce carbon emissions.

Net Zero Communities grants of up to $30,000 are available for community groups, schools, universities, not-for-profits and individuals within Ku-ring-gai for projects that support the goals of Council’s Net Zero Communities Strategy.

Environmental conservation grants of up to $5,000 are available for community projects that improve the natural environment or conserve native flora and fauna. This year, Council will be looking for projects that focus on urban greening, empowering community action and tackling invasive species.

Ku-ring-gai Mayor Christine Kay said Council was proud to support local projects and initiatives that protect and preserve the environment.

“We are the Green Heart of Sydney, with high levels of biodiversity and some of the best bushland in metropolitan Sydney. Our community cares as passionately as we do about protecting the environment for future generations,” Mayor Kay said.

“The Council’s grant funding continue to support innovative local projects that make a real difference in protecting our bushland, waterways, flora and fauna. Funded projects also inspire community action to reduce waste and carbon emissions and create a cleaner future.”

In previous years, grants have been awarded for Bushcare groups removing priority weeds, school projects to install native beehives, kids clothing and toy swap events, university research projects into wildlife diversity, bee rescue projects, a citizen science water monitoring project and an innovative school program to recycle plastics into pens.

Both grant programs are funded through Council’s environmental levy and open to groups and individuals within Ku-ring-gai.

Applications close on 16 May 2025, with grants to be announced in August 2025.
