Explore Ku-ring-gai’s heritage during April and May
Published on 10 April 2025
The Ku-ring-gai Heritage Festival is on between 18 April and 19 May with walks, talks, tours and other events designed to bring local history to life.
This year’s Festival is supported by a range of community organisations and coincides with the National Trust’s Australian Heritage Festival.
The Festival includes photo exhibitions, open homes, historical talks, walking tours, fashion exhibitions and an art exhibition.
The aim is to show Ku-ring-gai’s connection to history from indigenous culture through to the architecture and fashions of the 20th century.
Highlights include:
- A special Mother’s Day afternoon tea amid the gardens of one of Ku-ring-gai’s the most beautiful stately homes, Eryldene at Gordon.
- An exhibition of nightwear fashion between 1900 and 1960 by the Calvacade of History and Fashion at Gordon Library.
- A guided walk exploring Ku-ring-gai’s Aboriginal heritage.
- An interactive presentation on the post-war migrants from Bongilla refugee camp and their connection to Ku-ring-gai.
- A guided tour and Devonshire tea at the magnificent Mahratta property in Wahroonga
- A special digital display of historic photos at Gordon Library.
- Guided walks of heritage landmarks in the suburbs of Roseville, Killara, Lindfield and Gordon.
Mayor Chrstine Kay said the Heritage Festival was ‘a wonderful way for residents to experience every aspect of Ku-ring-gai’s past.’
“All the events are designed to bring history to life and give a human perspective on how our area has evolved.”
