Councillor Balachandran was elected as Ku-ring-gai Councillor representing Gordon Ward at the 2024 local government elections.
Councillor Balachandran is an experienced non-executive director and senior executive across community and women's services, arts and culture, First Nations organisations and impact investment.
With over 20 years of leadership experience, Councillor Balachandran has demonstrated her ability to deliver results in diverse sectors. She serves as a strategic advisor for the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, co-chair of the Community Resources Limited Board, chair of the Western Sydney University’s Institute of Culture and Society Advisory Board and was previously Director of Strategic Support with the NSW Aboriginal Housing Office.
Councillor Balachandran holds qualifications in governance (GAICD) and finance and has a strong focus on Council’s strategic decision-making. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Indu is deeply involved in her local community. She is passionate about music, arts, and culture and actively supports local initiatives building vibrant, diverse and inclusive communities.
