People experiencing homelessness
Homelessness is a growing national issue and Ku-ring-gai Council acknowledges the existence of homeless people in the Ku-ring-gai area.
People are considered homeless if they do not have accommodation that is safe, secure and appropriate. Homelessness can affect anyone and people may be experiencing homelessness due to a number of reasons including unemployment, a shortage of affordable housing, domestic and family violence, family breakdown, mental illness, financial difficulty or substance abuse issues.
Council supports the rights of all of our community members to use public spaces, including people experiencing homelessness, whilst also recognising our responsibility to ensure we have a safe and peaceful community.
The NSW Government introduced the Protocol for homeless people in public places and we are guided by this protocol when responding to concerns of homelessness in the area.
If you have concerns about the welfare of a homeless person in the Ku-ring-gai area, please complete the online form which will be forwarded to Catholic Care and Link Housing. CatholicCare are the specialist homelessness service for the Ku-ring-gai area and provide support for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
